Andy Serkis and the Motion-Capture Oscar Question

There’s been a lot of talk in the past few months about whether or not Andy Serkis should be eligible for an Oscar for his work in Rise of the Planet of the Apes (a film that I loved, if you recall). In that review, I said that Serkis deserved a nomination, and he certainly does, but does the nature of his performance disqualify him?

Well, the wonderful folks at Down in Front¬†recently released an hour-long discussion on the topic through their sister podcast, The Intermission. I highly recommend it for anyone interested in the issue. These folks know their stuff. You can find the episode here. It’s a very difficult discussion to have, and they handle both sides of the issue with tremendous dexterity. Enjoy!
